Extreme heat replaced unprecedented rain that fell only 36 hours before the July 8 Brevard County Safe at Home was to begin. According to the Space Coast Stadium General Manager Buck Rogers, with the many activity options available to their community from NASA, the Beaches and Orlando, our attendance was one of the largest Christian music events the stadium has ever had.

For the first time, Safe at Home was supported by an out of town youth group as the students from First Baptist Church of Milan TN drove to Brevard County to have their summer Mission Conference.  SDEA Staff planned a three day conference type event combining worship, motivation and training in door to door evangelism before sending the students out to neighborhoods surrounding the stadium to invite hundreds of individuals to come to the game on Sunday.  In the process of their visits, eight individuals made decisions for Christ right there at their front door steps.  According to youth leader Lane Collins, almost all his students were able to also talk to someone making a commitment at the end of Scott’s message during Safe at Home.  Their students will take home a new courage to share the Gospel as a result of their participation in Safe at Home.

Another Safe at Home first was to have these students come to the stadium on Saturday afternoon to surround the ball field in a time of prayer.  According to Scott Dawson, these students helped lay a spiritual foundation on which the event could take place.  From that foundation…of those making decisions for Christ, one individual had been hired to help set up the stage and he found more than a pay check, he is now a member of Christ’s family.  Another individual making a first time commitment was an 83 year old lady who had been in a major life threatening auto accident within the last year.  She has experienced a second chance in life both here on earth and for eternity with Christ.

Mandisa and Big Daddy Weave were again enjoyed by the crowd in a concert after Scott’s message.  Matt Jackson and band led worship for the student conference and also kicked off the Safe at Home with music before Scott spoke.
